Pet import regulations change frequently. Always verify requirements with the official government agricultural authority and your airline before making travel arrangements.
What you need to know
Bringing a dog or cat across international borders involves multiple regulatory steps. Most countries require a microchip, a current rabies vaccination, and an official health certificate issued within 10 days of travel.
Strict destinations like Japan, Australia, and New Zealand may also require a blood titer test and a mandatory quarantine period. Start planning at least 6–7 months ahead for these countries.
Entry-friendly destinations like the United States, Canada, Germany (EU), and the UAE generally require fewer steps but still need valid vaccination records and a health certificate.
